Xin Chào from the beautiful island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam! We’ve been staying at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay aka Lamarck University for four days now with another three to go. The entire resort is themed after a fictional university, dreamed up by acclaimed architect Bill Bensley. The amount of thought that went into this place is unbelievable, and if I didn’t know it was fictional I would have really thought there a campus here at one time!
We’ve been looking forward to this redemption for a while now, and it’s hard to believe it’s already half over. We booked the hotel using a seven night certificate we got through the Marriott nights and flights program, which is a terrific program if you have a large cache of Marriott points. I’ll get into that in another post, because it’s something you all should know about! For now though, here’s a glimpse of our home this week 🙂
Even though we’re only Marriott silver, we got upgraded to the 5th floor of the “Department of Agriculture”.
Absolutely love the high ceilings throughout the room, including the bathrooms.
Who doesn’t like a massive tub to soak in after a long day?
Not a bad view from the balcony 🙂
The adults only Seashell Pool. Not as big as the Sand Pool, but the resort is quiet so it’s never been crowded.
The private beach stretches the entire length of the resort and then some. There’s constantly at least three or four employees cleaning up any trash that may wash ashore, keeping it picture perfect at all times.
“Rue de Lamarck” Designed after the Ancient Town in Hoi An. Notice the similarity? The only difference is here you don’t have a street full of tourists in your photo!
Part of the Sand Pool aka the family friendly pool. It’s actually about double this size, but there were guests swimming on the other side and nobody likes a creep.
The waiting area at reception. A much more relaxed experience than standing in a queue at a desk.
The dining room of the Pink Pearl, one of three restaurants on site.
Fancy a libation? The Department of Chemistry is your spot! Just pick your poison.
If loungers aren’t your thing, take a seat outside and soak in the view.
The first dean of Lamarck Univerity, Mr. Mathew Collins.
The “Student Activities” for the week. Beer yoga anyone?
In the mood for a crepe and a coffee? Stop over to French & Co. to get your fix!
Ok so I ended up posting 16 pictures total, but 15 just sounds better for a post title don’t ya think?
Stay tuned for the in-depth trip report coming out soon!
